Goal Type:

Boston Qualifier

Running Accomplishments:

Started running in 1990 with goal of running one St. George Marathon, after watching Mark Nelson run his 1st marathon, to see why a person would want to run 26.2 miles. That was all it took to hook me I will be running my 19th St. George this year. My PR is 3:30 in 1999. I still have a goal to qualify for Boston before I am dead.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Run short term

Long-Term Running Goals:

Run long term faster than today.

Personal:

I run with Paul Thomas, Wayne Fairbanks, Kevin Jessop (when he wakes up) and Ozzie the dog.

I have been married 31 yrs to JoLene she loves to run and has ran several SG marathons, but has a couple of injuries that keep her from running distance. 4 adult children ,of which my oldest Stacia has also ran 8 marathons, Jeremy her husband started running and will be running his 4th SG Marathon.

W/ Paul & Wayne easy 8:54 avg. last 1/4 6:33

The SGM is like Christmas, and we are all wondering what time the Marathon Santa is going to bring us. Have we been good boys and girls and did all of our trianing? We might get a shiney PR for Marathon Christmas. Have we been bad boys and girls and ate poorly and trianed like spoiled brats? We might get rocks for legs and a a big wall for the Marathon Christmas.

Wayne will be running 3:15 to 3:20 @ SGM  and needs (wants) someone to run with!!! Will someone respond?

Well that was Fun! I like the rain, I do not like headwind, but I could look at it as a nice cool breeze. I would take this weather over hot weather most of the time. I did not drink as much as normal, I did take 4 gu's 2 of them were Rocktanes, I like 'em! talk about power boost. Paul would have gone under 3:00 if he would have taken 5 Rocktanes, in fact he would probably still be chasing his tail, he would have so much energy. Kevin & I ran the whole way together, we had a great time, we started with Stacia & Jeremy but they fell behind before Snow Canyon, Stacia was so cold, she almost perished, friends handed her a jacket and hat at Snow's, or she would not have finished, as it was, she was still so cold her legs barely functioned, she can't take in any fuel as she runs, so alot of her energy went to keeping her alive instead of her legs to keep her moving. The cool weather made be believe I did not need the fuel  with the electrolytes but I took it anyway to test the effects as I ran, I now know that fuel is also good  in the cold. When Kevin and I were in the finishers area, Kevin's father in law was there, which Kevin expected him, what he did not expect was the news Rusty (his father in law) had for him. Kevin's father passed away this morning, no illness, it was a shock. Kevin is a great friend and I feel for his loss, during the run we had discussed the passing of loved ones and how fortunate we are to know there is an afterlife and how we will be with them again.

A couple of notes I need to make for next year: We meet before the race at 5am not 5:30, it was not much of a problem, but it could be. Also we started way too far back in the pack, we bobbed and weaved to get past the 5:30 pack, we ran an extra mile at least.I also need to pack all the gu into my race ready shorts and run around to see if my pant are going to fall down, I almost lost them. This year I shut off the auto lap on my gps watch so I could click on ea. mile marker instead of the gps miles, they were almost identical so no need to worry about watching and clicking. Somehow I shut my watch off 13 seconds after I started it, I don't know how that happened, never had it before, during training. I turned it back on at mile 3. I also need to take the Rocktane on a 20 mile run early and often to see if any ill effects, ie burnout. Legs feel great, Wayne & I are going to run Tuesday  7:30 a.m. later but more daylight.

7:30 am  ran later with Wayne so we could have daylight. The traffic is bad at this time so Thursday we will go at 7 am. I could feel a few aches, but not bad. we ran to Northridge Park and just ran around and around so we did not have to think about where we were going and no traffic.
